the get together: a 4 day womxn's festival

A revolutionary 3 night / 4 day festival taking place an hour and a half outside of Toronto, Canada near Kitchener-Waterloo. This inaugural year we will gather hundreds of women, to honour and celebrate the diversity of what it means to identify as a woman through intensive learning, live music, art, experiential dining, movement, meditation and moments of deep connection in nature. We believe that just by existing you have wisdom worth sharing. That is why, unlike any other festival, The Get Together will provide you (and every attendee) with a platform to share your unique passion or expertise in one of five ways: teaching a workshop, doing a live performance, volunteering, submitting art for our onsite art gallery or suggesting a way if none of our’s resonate with your particular passion. good space away: a day retreat

A chance to get out of the city and in to your body. We’ll spend the day at a farmhouse an hour outside of Toronto. Expect 2 yoga classes, a walking meditation, lunch + a snack provided by Brain Food, down time with options to swim in the pool, use the indoor sauna, walk one of the surrounding trails, or just relax. The cost is $100 for programming + food and we intend to carpool amongst the group.

scrambled eggs: healing after brain injury//build the nervous system

If you or someone you love has experienced head trauma, you’ve most likely come to learn that life with an ‘invisible injury’ is confusing and misunderstood. The process of becoming your post-injury self is varied: just like no two people are alike, no two brain injuries are alike.

Join Krista Schilter in this all-levels workshop to discuss the healing journey around cognitive, physical, and emotional side effects related to traumatic brain injury. We’ll explore how a mindfulness practice can help you meet yourself exactly where you’re at and how movement, meditation, and breathwork can transform your life post-TBI. We’ll use Kundalini Yoga techniques to balance the hemispheres of the brain, increase blood flow, manage symptoms, and increase memory, processing speed, and cognition. In each workshop expect a brief discussion, breath exercises, movement, relaxation with sound healing, mantra mediation, and optional homework practices and journaling.


Build the Nervous System

Nadi cleansing is a classical technique used to purify and create a powerful balance of grounding and rising energy while encouraging the flow of kundalini energy into the central channel of the spine. This offers an experience where we can observe emotions with a neutral mind and become an expert witness of the body. We'll discuss the importance of deep relaxation in restoring and resetting the nervous system to support healing and work to adjust the nervous system to bring both the parasympathetic and sympathetic sides into balance so the intelligence of the body can heal itself.

11 minutes in heaven

To move away from starving artist mentality and towards prosperous creator we'll harnesses the magic of kundalini teachings to deep dive into the creative state where words and feelings flow from the cushion to the page. Together we'll move through a movement sequence to get out of the head and into the heart. We'll drop in with a meditation for creativity, removing creative blockages and fear so we can get still enough to feel the flow. We'll write for 11 minutes - just enough to see what happens when we've dropped our guard, our inner critic, and the need to look good. The goal is to act as a channel for grace and spontaneity so we can touch the essence of creation.

Balance the Brain

The brain has two hemispheres: left and right. These two sides must coordinate their activities at the same time to supplement and complement each other. We'll work with subconscious memories to release and overcome anger, frustration, and self-destructive behaviours associated with head trauma. Expect an exploration in emotional body, response vs. reaction, and a discussion on outlets for these very human and valid emotions.

liberate your lions

Consider for a breath or two that to access our heart from our lower chakras we must pass through the gates of the three lions: fear, anger, sadness. These lions live within our energetic body at our solar plexus serving as guardians of our heart. What if we were to feed these lions a diet rich in love and acceptance rather than a diet rich in neurosis and stories? This is transformative work that helps to recalibrate emotional energy. Together we'll anchor ourselves in the neutral channel - that which is stable - so we are better able to experience that which is changing and shifting. Expect breathwork, vinyasa style movement, a firey kriya with mantra, deep relaxation with sound healing, and journaling to come alive and reclaim the energy of misplaced emotions.

Breathe Easy

Together we'll explore basic breath exercises to learn the relationship to breath as a healing tool and observe the differences in sensation. When you alter the breath you begin to oppose and release the habitual patterns of emotion and attention that are coded in the habits of the body and the mind. We'll move in a way that stimulates the vertebrae of the spine and increases circulation of the spinal fluid which is linked to memory. We'll close with beautiful meditation that combines sound, mantra, and mudra for a deeply transformative experience.

get centred in your moon centres

To bring more harmony into our lives and understand our truest nature as womxn*, we can turn to Yogi Bhajan’s teachings about the 11 moon centres: zones in the body that are activated at different times in the cycle of the moon. These centres influence how we interact with the world on both a micro and macro level.

Together we’ll identify the moon centres and their qualities, work our way through a document to start tracking your cycle in conjunction with the moon, and practice the highest meditation a womxn can do to bring balance to these centres. As we develop love and respect for ourself we help to change the global system at its very core. Expect a discussion, pranayam (breath exercise), kriya (dynamic movement), deep relaxation with gong, and meditation.

cacao ceremony: unstick your heart

Two things we like: heart-based connection and chocolate. Let’s get beyond the hallmark nature of capitalist vday and drop into a state of heightened awareness using vinyasa and kundalini yoga, sound, reiki, and cacao. In ceremonial doses, raw cacao is a powerful heart opener that paves the way to transformation through self-love. It has been used for centuries to unlock euphoric states, release negative emotions, and connect to pure heart energy.

Please bring something to contribute to the altar. This could be a ring, something old, a feather, crystal, photo. This is not for us to keep but for us to infuse. You’ll take it back home with you, a little brighter, a little lighter. It is important that you are sober. Dress up for the occasion but keep it neutral – please avoid logos and bring a head covering and a pen with you. It’s our work to acknowledge our humanness and our godliness and uplift and elevate all those we come in contact with.

Aura readings have been used throughout the ages as both a healing and learning practice. During the 1970s, aura photography became popularized thanks to the creation of the aura camera, a device able to capture the mystical spectrum within us all. Rose Aura will be on site with a highly-specialized camera to bring aura readings to participants of this workshop. Leave in an elevated state with a polaroid to prove it!

Enjoy the first day of your year in community. Together we'll move, we'll pray, we'll chant, we'll explore the tantric numerology and outlook of the year ahead.

Krista Amar Atma Schilter will lead us through a slow flow, kundalini yoga, and a meditation to set the tone for 2019. Claudia Gaviria will offer the magic of tarot and provide healing reiki energy work while holding space for the heart-opening powers of ceremonial cacao. Annie Keshishian will lead us through intention setting and offer her signature mix of smudge and sound therapy including gong, flute, and bowls.
